What to Do Now to Grow Your Health Coaching Business in 2024

As we approach the end of 2023, it’s an exhilarating time for health and wellness coaches. The industry is being recognized in new ways like never before, including the recent announcement from the CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) finalizing their proposal to add health and wellness coaching to their Medicare Telehealth Services List for 2024!1 The new year is sure to bring more fresh opportunities, new clients, and the chance to make a significant impact on the lives of others than ever before.

It’s an exciting time to be a health and wellness coach, but that doesn’t mean business will come easy. If you’re a health and wellness coach who runs their own private practice, you know it also means wearing many hats, including the sales & marketing hat, the operations hat, the accounting hat, and even the IT hat.

The end of the year is no exception when it comes to doing all the things in your business, but if you can check off the right essential items now, you’ll set yourself up ready to run into 2024 with a fresh business that is ready to accept new clients!

Preparing Your Health & Wellness Coaching Business for Success in 2024

Wrap Up 2023 With a Bow:

As you finish up the year, there are some key tasks all business owners need to complete, which you don’t want to forget about:

  • Renew your business filing (state specific): Your state may need you to renew your LLC, DBA, etc. so that they know you are still an active business.
  • Find a tax pro and start your tax preparations: Gather and organize receipts, invoices, and financial records for tax filing. Consider consulting with a tax professional before the busy tax season starts to discuss your tax plan, potential business expense deductions you might be eligible for, and how to ensure you don’t end up with a surprise tax bill in 2024.
  • Complete unfinished continuing education classes and quizzes: A benefit to buying on-demand continuing education classes is that you can watch them anytime, but it also means they can get forgotten. Some classes require you to complete the course material and take the quiz by the end of the year in order to receive your CE credits. The same goes for certification programs. Check and make sure you don’t have any incomplete courses that will expire at the end of the month.
  • Send out client and vendor appreciation notes: It’s a great time to share your appreciation with the people you’ve worked with this year, whether it’s clients or freelancers. This can also put you top of mind in the new year when they are looking for support with their goals. win-win!
  • Check on subscription renewals: The beginning of the year is a common time for systems and apps to renew their subscriptions, which can lead to some surprise charges at the beginning of the year. Take a quick check on any subscription you know will renew in January and check that your form of payment is current.

Look Ahead to 2024:

  • Set Your 2024 Goals: Set clear, measurable goals for the next year, including revenue goals and new referral relationships you’d like to build.
  • Review Your Marketing Materials: It can feel great to start out the year with a fresh, updated set of marketing materials. Review any materials you’ve used this year and update with more current information as needed. Make a note to stop by any places (healthcare offices, wellness professional’s clinics, etc.) where your materials might be outdated to leave them the newest materials.
  • Ask for Client Testimonials: Ask any recent clients to provide you with a testimonial of your work together. (be mindful of HIPAA compliance and privacy regulations). Tip: go back and update your marketing materials with new and fresh testimonials!
  • Personal Reflection and Rest: Take time to reflect on your personal journey as a business owner and plan for some rest to recharge for the new year.
